Last week we hired a church hall in Shawlands for our meet up. My family arrived early but within half and hour or so many, many more people piled into the hall. I counted 31 children in total including six babies and toddlers and seven teenagers.
It was great to have such a broad age range, from 6 months to 19 years, in one space all busying about. Some of the older children played board games
while some of the youngest played with the toys we’d found in the hall.
The children in between did drawing, collage, played card games
as well as with Hot Wheels cars, lego,
building blocks, a marble run
tiny dinosaurs and board games of their own.
Some of the older girls went outside to play with skipping ropes while some more of the energetic children skipped over elastic inside.
Small groups of friends formed and reconfigured throughout the afternoon. We had set up a quiet area for the babies but by the end of the afternoon, a small group of larger children were found there enjoying a story and some down time.
